Aston Martin is bidding farewell to its DBS moniker with the unveil of the DBS 770 Ultimate Volante convertible.

It is based on the 770 Ultimate coupe, which was introduced in January, and featured engine and chassis upgrades for better performance and handling over the regular 770.

The same upgrades have been applied to the roadster, including an extra boost that increases the output of the 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 motor from 725 PS to 770 PS.

However, despite packing the same engine, the convertible weighs slightly more (1,855kg) than the coupe, resulting in a slower 0-100kmph sprint of 3.6 seconds, compared to the fixed-rood car’s 3.4 seconds.

The convertible features a new front splitter along with a horse-shoe vent in the hood. From the side, you can also spot the 21-inch alloy wheels as well as the special ‘770 Ultimate’ branding, differentiating it from the standard DBS.

The chassis and suspension have been upgraded with a new tune for the adaptive dampers, a solidly-mounted steering column, and a sturdier cross member to improve rigidity.

Aston Martin is producing 199 examples of the DBS 770 Ultimate Volante, all of which have been spoken for, with customers set to receive their delivery this summer.
