BMW launched its flagship SUV, the all-new XM, in India yesterday. Priced at Rs 2.60 crore (ex-showroom), the XM gets a controversial grille design with a hybrid heart.

Carrying the same silhouette as the X7, the XM gets the re-designed kidney grille at the front, with gold accents. Flanking it are a pair of sleek headlamps.

Other notable design highlights here include vertically stacked exhaust outlets at the rear, and big 21-inch wheels (which can be upgraded to 22 & 23-inch) dominating the side profile.

On the side, the XM SUV gets the same layout as the iX and i4 offerings, with the two 12.3-inch and 14.9-inch dual screens taking the centre stage.

In terms of electronics, the BMW XM gets iDrive 8 software with ADAS tech, four-zone climate control, ambient lighting and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Powering the XM is a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and a single electric motor, powered by a 25.7kWh battery pack, putting out combined 653PS and 800Nm of torque.

Just on electric power alone, BMW claims the XM can travel a distance of up to 88km. The hybrid system helps it sprint from 0-100kmph in just 4.3 seconds!

In terms of competition, the BMW XM goes up against the heavyweights like Lamborghini Urus Performante, Aston Martin DBX 707, and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT.
