BMW has taken the wraps off of its most potent offering to date, and no it's not the M1. It is, in fact, the all-new XM Label Red.

If you thought the luxury SUV’s 653PS power output wasn’t enough, the Label Red edition ups the ante to 11 by upping the power to 748PS from its twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8, which works together with an electric motor.

This helps it be remarkably quicker, sprinting from 0-100kmph in just 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 280kmph.

What’s interesting here though, is that its electric motor produces the same 197PS of output as the standard model. The power bump here comes from its uprated S68 engine.

Folks at BMW have also upped the torque output from 723Nm to 997Nm, thanks to a new  “pre-gearing stage,” which is placed between the electric motor and the transmission’s input shaft.

This alone helps increase the electric motor’s output from 279Nm to 450Nm! With its improved timing, the Label Red XM can now go toe-to-toe against the likes of the  Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid.

The special edition SUV also comes with a host of red accents sprinkled across its bodywork. This theme is carried over inside as well with the seats getting red contrast stitching, along with the instrument panel, door trim and the centre console.

Inside, there's also a "1/500" inscription denoting the model's limited availability. After its showcase at the Shanghai Auto Show next week, the performance SUV will go into production in August this year.
