It’s not a drill, Google has announced its AI-based ChatGPT competitor called Bard. The “experimental conversational AI service” will be available to a group of “trusted testers” starting today.

As per CEO, Sundar Pichai, the chatbot will be made public in the coming weeks. However, we don’t know yet if it’ll be as free-ranging as OpenAI’s offering.

What we do know from what Google has shared is that Bard will be able to resolve practical queries to questions like “ how to plan a baby shower” or “what kind of meals could be made from a list of ingredients”

Pichai further elaborated on Bard’s capabilities, saying “Bard can be an outlet for creativity, and a launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now, and then get drills to build your skills.”

He further stated that Bard “draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses,” which seems to suggest that the AI might be able to answer questions about recent events. Something which ChatGPT struggles with.

In the coming days, Google will be releasing a "lightweight model version of LaMDA," for more mass use, which should allow the tech giant in getting more user feedback.
