It’s finally happening. Rockstar Games has announced that it’ll be launching the first teaser trailer of GTA 6 in early December, with rumours of pre-booking set to begin on December 12. Ahead of it, here’s everything we know so far.

When Was It Confirmed?Despite rumours circulating on the internet for nearly a decade about a Vice City-based sequel, Rockstar only officially acknowledged the game's existence in February of last year. This confirmation came discreetly, tucked away at the bottom of a GTA 5 community update, stating that "active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway."

What will it be compatible with?Although there's no official confirmation, leaks indicate that the sequel could be exclusive to new-gen hardware. This implies that players using a PS4 or Xbox One might need to upgrade soon. Adding incentive to this decision, rumours also suggest that Rockstar might implement cross-play, enabling players to collaborate or compete with each other regardless of their chosen hardware.

What do we know about the map? While we understand GTA 6 might largely return players to Vice City. However, some leaks indicate that the developers might expand the setting to encompass the entire state of Florida. If this turns out to be accurate, the map could surpass the size of both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. Notably, industry analyst Michael Pachter mentioned, "My understanding is that it is a mashup of Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City, and Europe, with London being a definite inclusion."

What about the story and the plot?Industry rumours indicate that it might showcase two protagonists—a male and a female taking the lead—in a storyline reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde. This hints at the potential inclusion of the character-switching mechanic introduced in GTA 5, allowing players to switch between these protagonists.

When is it coming out?To answer it briefly, we don’t know. There’s been no confirmation on the release date for GTA 6 as of yet. However, with the teaser trailer dropping in December, it is likely that the game might get a holiday 2024 release, earlier than the previous estimation of a 2025 launch.
