ICC T20I World Cup 2022 Prize Money: How Does It Compare To IPL And Other T20 Leagues

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the prize money for the T20I World Cup 2022, set to get underway later this month. There hasn't been any increase in the winner's prize money from the last year.

The winner of this year's World Cup will take home US $1.6 million, and the runners-up will get  $800,000. Two semi-finalists will get $400,000 each.

England received prize money of $3.5 billion for winning the T20I World Cup in 2016. But the prize money has significantly decreased in the next five years.

Fans were not pleased with the reduction in prize money for the future T20I world champion and compared it to Sanju Samson's IPL contract. Samson gets Rs 14 crore per season, while the T20I World winner will get Rs. 13 crores approx.

Gujarat Titans, the winner of the IPL 2022, received a cheque of Rs. 20 crores, while the runners-up received almost the same as what the T20I World Cup 2022 winner will get.

The total prize money for the T20I World Cup amounts to INR 45.6 crores. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul earned a combined total of INR 48 crores from playing IPL alone. Even though ICC's revenue has soared up, there's hasn't a proportionate increase in the prize pot.

When it comes to the prize money pot, neither the ICC tournaments nor the T20 franchise leagues across the world can match the IPL.

BIg Bash LeagueFor the 2021-22 edition of the Big Bash League, Perth Scorchers took home $450,000 for winning the entire thing, while the runners-up got almost half of the amount.

Pakistan Super LeagueLast year, the Pakistan Super League winner - Lahore Qalandars - got Rs. 3.40 crores, while the runner-ups got around Rs. 1.6 crores.
