PSG defeated Montpellier 3-1 to stretch their lead at the top of the points table, but they wouldn't be pleased with how the night turned out for their talisman Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe's night got worse with every minute he spent on the field. Early in the game, Sergio Ramos was dragged down by a Montpellier defender, and the referee pointed toward the spot-kick. Mbappe stepped up to bury the shot and get PSG an early lead.

However, his powerful shot was parried away by Montpellier goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte. However, the VAR found out that Lecomte had stepped out of his line too early, thus earning Mbappe another chance.

But Mbappe missed again, hitting it directly to the post and then firing the rebound attempt into the sky. With Neymar and Messi already in the squad, Mbappe might be relieved from penalty duty. The French superstar then limped off the field after injuring his thigh.

Although the injury doesn't look serious, PSG manager Christophe Galtier must be fretting over Mbappe's fitness, as the club is set to take on Bayern Munich next week in the knockout stage of the Champions League.

The night also saw Mbappe being leapfrogged by Folarin Balogun in the Ligue 1 goal-scoring charts. The Arsenal loanee at Reims scored thrice against Lorient, and has now 14 goals already this season.
