The T20I World Cup 2022 will be played in Australia, from October 16. While the format has always been a graveyard for the bowlers, it's still hard for a batter to pile up runs on a consistent basis. We take a look at the highest run-getter from each edition of the tournament.

Matthew Hayden - 2007 T20 World CupMatthew Hayden put up a series of scintillating batting displays to prove that he was a player ahead of his time. Hayden totalled 265 runs in six matches, smashing 32 fours and ten sixes. In the semi-final against India, he scored 62 off 47 deliveries.

Tillakaratne Dilshan - 2009 T20 World CupTillakaratne Dilshan lit up the second edition of the T20I World Cup with his dazzling batting display, finishing up as not only the leading run-getter, but also the winner of Player of the Tournament. Dilshan blasted an unbeaten 96 in the semis to seal the final date with the eventual winner Pakistan.

Mahela Jayawardena - 2010 T20 World CupMahela Jayawardena became the second Sri Lankan, after Dilshan, to top the run-scoring charts in the T20I World Cup. He amassed 302 runs in six T20Is at an astounding average of 60. His 64-ball 100 against Zimbabwe still remains the only centurion knock in World Cup from Sri Lankan batters.

Shane Watson - 2012 T20 World CupShane Watson aggregates 249 runs at a strike rate of over 150 for Australia in the 2012 T20I World Cup. Watson started the campaign with a breezy half-century, and carried his form till the semi-final, where his team lost to West Indies.

Virat Kohli - 2014 T20 World CupIt was Virat Kohli's time to shine, as he racked up over 300 runs at an average of 106, which included four half-centuries. Where others failed, Kohli slammed 77 off 58 in the final against Sri Lanka, but couldn't avert the defeat.

ICC T20 World Cup 2016 -Tamim IqbalThe 2016 edition of the T20I World Cup established Tamim Iqbal's credentials as the most explosive batter in the country. Iqbal scored his first T20I century against Oman, scoring 103 off 63 deliveries. With 295 runs at an average of 73, Tamim finished as the leading run-getter.

Babar Azam - 2021 T20 World CupBabar Azam started his campaign with a match-winning knock against India, and never looked back ever since. He scored three four half-centuries, and finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
