What Happens To Manchester City After Being Charged Of Breaching Financial Rules?

The Premier League has charged current champions, Manchester City with a series of allegations for breaking numerous financial fairplay rules.

These breaches span from the 2009-10 season to the 2017-18 campaign, with the first of the claims accusing City of hiding crucial financial information related to "revenue, related parties and the operating costs."

The second set of breaches alleges breaking of rules which require a member club to include all details of the manager’s remuneration in its relevant contracts, specifically referring to the 2009-10 to 2012-13 season.

Furthermore, the second stage of breaches includes hiding player remuneration from season 2010-11 to 2015-16.

While the third set of allegations deals with breaching FFP, the fourth set accuses City of breaching Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules in seasons 2015-16 to 2017-18.

Finally, the club has also been accused of not assisting during the investigation which took place from December 2018 to Feb 2023. Back in 2020, the blue side of Manchester was facing a two-year ban from European football, which was later overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Considering this is still a developing situation, experts have suggested that the Premier League Champions might face a 20-point deduction or a possibility of expulsion from the league.
