Sitting above the seventh-gen S-Class, the AMG S 63 E packs an updated version of the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 motor coupled with a rear-axle-mounted asynchronous electric motor.

Combined, it makes a whopping 813PS of power and 1,069Nm of torque. That’s an increase of 220PS and 530Nm.

For context, the last-gen S 65 with its 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 mill made 641PS of power and 999Nm of torque.

There are also seven different driving modes on offer here - Electric, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, Slippery and Individual.

Put all of that power to the ground and you get from nought to 100kmph in just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 250kmph!

This is impressive considering, the S 63 E has put on 525kg of extra weight, tipping the scale at 2,595kg.

The additional weight is due to the 13.1kWh battery pack, which consists of 1,200 cells. And yes, being a PHEV, the S-Class AMG can run on pure electric power alone for a distance of 27.2km (WLTP).

Other major updates here include a more aggressive exterior design, with a new front bumper and a Panamericana front grille as seen on other AMG-specific models.

Additionally, the Mercedes-Benz logo on the bonnet is now replaced with an AMG emblem. This AMG branding can be seen inside as well, with special graphics for the MUBX display, embossed upholstery and more.

AMG has also added in its Ride Control+ suspension, which allows for automatic self-levelling and lowering functionality at speeds above 120kmph.

But don’t get your hopes up just yet. While hybrids are slowly entering our markets, performance-based plug-in models are yet to be seen here. However, we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
