The Sony Walkman is back in a 2023 avatar. The Japanese company has announced the latest addition to the A300 Walkman series, the NW-A306.

This is an updated version of the Sony NW-A105 which was launched back in 2020 and features a 3.6-inch HD TFT touchscreen display, along with Wi-Fi support and 32GB of (expandable) storage.

Staying true to its legendary moniker, the NW-A306 supports Hi-Res Audio, LDAC, DSD, and FLAC audio formats. What’s more interesting though is its ability to upscale music, with its Edge-AI and DSEE Ultimate technology, whether it is Wi-Fi streamed or downloaded.

And yes, just like most high-end Sony headphones it does come with 360 Reality Audio support, which allows you to listen to a variety of sounds in a 360-degree spherical sound field.

Sony claims a battery backup of nearly 36 hours of 44.1 kHz FLAC playback, 32 hours of 96 kHz FLAC High-Resolution Audio playback along with 26 hours of playback while using a music streaming service.

Sony also sells the more premium NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 Walkman models, but we doubt they’ll arrive on our shores.

The Sony NW-A306, on the other hand, might get an India launch. Internationally, the NW-A306 Walkman is sold in black and blue hues, with a starting price of US$ 433 (Rs 35,305). However, considering the import taxes, expect a hefty hike over the amount.
