The much-anticipated G20 Summit ended on a high note, over the weekend, in New Delhi. The confluence saw world leaders forging consensus while addressing raging global issues. We take a look at a volley of key green takeaways from the leaders’ summit.

Limiting Global Warming To to 1.5°CThe G20 leaders stressed on the need for limiting the temperature increase to 1.5 °C from 2°C, in order to reduce the impact of climate change. The panel however asserted that achieving the desired results (reductions by 43%) in the global GHG emissions by 2030 would demand mutual support and commitment from all countries.

Designing A Circular Economy WorldIn keeping with the resolve to design a circular economy world, it was mutually decided upon to shed light on three key areas: enhance environmentally sound waste management, implement zero-waste initiatives and substantially reduce waste generation by 2030.

Ending Plastic PollutionWith conscious efforts being taken to curb plastic pollution, the forum welcomed the establishment of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to build an international legally binding system on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment and setting a deadline of the end of 2024 for the same.

Push For Climate FinancingThe Green Development Pact was devised to build a robust financial platform to tackle climate change. This declaration reportedly urges developed nations to double their funding for the cause from $100 billion annually by 2025.The India-led ‘global biofuels alliance’ was also announced to ensure the adoption of biofuels by industries. Furthermore, India announced a G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation in order to be able to provide data on climate and weather for all nations.
