After a global debut back in February, Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the 2022 C-Class in India. A ‘baby S-Class,’ the new-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be offered in three different variants: C200, C220d and the C300d. Prices of the new C-Class start from Rs 55 lakh and go all the way to Rs 61 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).

As our earlier report mentions, the design tweaks are kept to a minimum on the updated model. It still gets the same Mercedes-Benz grille at the front with sleek LED headlamps. However, the sharp creases of the old model have made way for smooth and subtle lines, and there are the 5-spoke alloy wheels which give the car a sporty character.

Step inside and you’ll realise why the German carmaker likes to call it this the “baby S-Class.” There’s a huge 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system taking the centre stage. It comes with the company’s second-generation MBUX infotainment software, which allows for smartphone connectivity and other convenience features.

What’s different here is the new generation model now gets a 25mm longer wheelbase, which should technically improve the legroom on offer. We’ll be sure to check it out during our road test review.

Also new here are the three different engine options: the C200’s 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol unit (204hp) and the two diesel motors, the C220d (200hp) and the C300d (265hp). All come with the company’s 48B mild-hybrid motor, which offers an additional boost of 20hp when required.

Mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard, the C200 claims to sprint from 0-100kmph in 7.3 seconds. While the C220d and C300d take only 5.7 seconds. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will compete against the Audi A4, Volvo S60 and the BMW 3 Series.
