Bajaj Auto opened bookings for Chetak on April 13 and seeing the huge demand, the company had to close its booking within 48 hours after the re-booking started. The two-wheeler manufacturer had opened up bookings for the Chetak EV due to the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa.
The booking was scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis. The brand will again open its bookings after they review their supply chain situation. Right now, Bajaj sells its Chetak in only two cities i.e. Bangalore and Pune. The Indian company is planning to increase the Chetak’s availability to 24 other cities within the country.
Commenting on the customer response, Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director at Bajaj Auto Ltd., said, “We are absolutely delighted to see the fabulous response to the re-opening of bookings for the Chetak electric scooter in Pune and Bengaluru. Covid-led disruptions last year resulted in an unintended and long waiting period but despite that we have seen very few cancellations of bookings. We thank our customers in Pune and Bengaluru for their patience and now this overwhelming response. We are conscious that customers would like to receive early deliveries of Chetak and start enjoying it as soon as possible, hence we have had to take the difficult decision of closing the bookings in view of continuing supply chain uncertainties. However, it is our endeavour to resolve the supply chain issues at the earliest, re-open bookings as well as roll into more cities within the next quarter.”
Bajaj Chetak is an all-electric scooter which is powered by an electric motor and has a rated power output of 3.8KW. The company claims that it can provide a range of up to 95km and the batteries can be fully charged within five hours. It sells two variants in the market right now — Urbane and Premium.
