Audi has announced that the new S5 Sportback will be launched in India on 22nd March. The car will be powered by Audi’s 3.0-litre TFSI turbo-petrol V6, which produces an impressive 349 horsepower and 500Nm of torque. With quattro permanent all-wheel-drive, power is meted out to all four wheels via an 8-speed ‘Tiptronic’ automatic transmission and the S5 accelerates from zero to 100kph in just 4.9 seconds, going on to hit a top speed of 250kph. The quattro AWD system is rear-biased, with 60% of the power going to the rear wheels under normal driving circumstances. However, if the system sense loss of grip at any end, it can send up to 70% of the power to the front wheels or up to 85% to the rear, which makes the S5 that much safer when being driven at high speeds on wet and slippery surfaces.

Apart from all its power and performance, the new S5 Sportback also gets a range of cosmetic updates, including redesigned front and rear bumpers, LED matrix headlamps and LED taillamps, new alloy wheels, and silver finish on the rear view mirrors. Inside the cabin, the infotainment system has been updated in a big way, with the old rotary dial setup being replaced with a new touchscreen that makes it easier and more intuitive to control the S5’s multimedia interface. There’s also Audi’s much-admired virtual cockpit; an all-digital instrument panel with a customisable display, which is particularly useful while using maps for navigation.

Stay tuned for pricing and availability details, which Audi will announce when the car is launched in India next week.
