All the cool new gadgets launched last month that are worth checking out

Here’s your monthly ‘how to spend it’ guide to all the cool, new gadgets launched last month. From smartphones like the Xiaomi 12 Pro and the Motorola Edge 30 to laptops and wireless earbuds, the last month had something for every tech enthusiast.

SHARP SHOOTER

The Xiaomi 12 Pro, the brand’s new flagship, rides heavily on its rear camera. The 12 Pro combines three 50MP lenses (all with night mode) that include the all-new Sony IMX 707 sensor (the primary lens). It’s not just the camera that has our attention, it features a gorgeous velvet matte finish that plays out particularly well in the Opera Mauve colour variant. At its heart is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Generation 1 chipset. The device comes in two hardware variants — 8GB/256 GB or 12GB/256 GB. The vibrant 6.73-inch 2K+ AMOLED display is backed by a 4600mAh battery. Xiaomi’s 120W HyperCharge takes the battery from 0 to 100 per cent in 18 minutes flat.

SLINKY ROAD WARRIOR

Ultra-portable laptops are back in the mix as travel patterns limp back to normal. The Fujitsu CH series laptop weighs just 988g; we also approve of the edgy design. The CH series notebooks are powered by an Intel Core i5-1135G7 Processor with 4 Cores and 8 Threads geared for multi-tasking. There’s a choice of OLED and IGZO displays that both deliver a battery life of above 10 hours. We also like the convenience of the dual-use HDMI input and output port. In output mode, you can connect it to a larger second display for efficient document creation, and in input mode, you can check out video games from a console on the vibrant 13.3-inch screen.

GAMERS UNITE

The Logitech G Pro X Lightweight is aimed at serious gamers and powered by a 32-bit ARM microprocessor. Logitech claims a USB report rate of 1000 Hz. At 63 gm, you’re unlikely to find a lighter gaming mouse. Almost every design element is aimed at helping you ‘up your game’. The G Pro X Lightweight is built with PTFE feet for smooth movement over most surfaces and is equipped with the company’s Hero 25K sensor that supports 100 to 25,600dpi sensitivity. There’s a total of five buttons that include a responsive scroll wheel and two buttons on the side, which come in handy in shooting games. The left/right mouse buttons come with a click-tension system that enhances the consistency.

LIVING ON THE EDGE

The Motorola Edge 30 is pitched as the world’s thinnest 5G Phone. It’s just 6.79mm thin, and is featherlight with a heft of 155gm. More than the minimal footprint, it’s the 6.55-inch pOLED display (2400 x 1080 pixels) with a 144Hz refresh rate that makes a big impression. It’s the first smartphone in India to be propelled by the Snapdragon 778G+ 5G processor. The Edge 30 is also on our radar for its near-stock Android experience. The versatile rear camera combines a unique 50MP ultra-wide + macro cam, a 50MP primary lens with OIS, and a 2MP depth sensor. There’s also a 32MP selfie shooter in the mix.

SHUT THE WORLD OUT

Vivo’s TWS 2 ANC are the brand’s first TWS earbuds with ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). The TWS 2 ANC comes with 40dB advanced noise cancellation and an immersive DEEP-HD Audio that uses high bandwidth and HD audio codec that allows you to shut out external sounds. They ace calls — the TWS 2 are kitted with two external beamforming microphones that eliminate background noise and an internal microphone that picks up your voice. Sound quality gets a boost with 12.2mm drivers with Super Strong Bass, and Vivo’s Golden Ears Acoustics Lab. Battery life of 29 hours (including the case) is a win too.

OUT OF THE WORLD

This one’s for space geeks. The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition celebrates 25 years of the MIR space mission. The unboxing experience mimics visuals from a spaceship while the keyboard deck resembles a space capsule cockpit, with multiple easter eggs. You’re likely to gravitate towards the aluminium alloy design with a Zero-G titanium finish. You can personalise the 3.5-inch OLED ZenVision display on the lid. Aside from the packaging, it is geared for serious performance, thanks to top-of-the-line 12th Gen Intel H series processors. It’s just 15.9mm thin, and weighs about 1.4 kg, impressive for a device with a 14- inch screen and boasts of a 14-inch 2.8K, 90Hz OLED touchscreen.
