Pharrell Williams Sets The Bar High With His Debut SS 2024 Showcase For Louis Vuitton

Pharrell Williams’ SS 2024 showcase marks the maison’s first major show since Virgil Abloh’s untimely passing in 2021

Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2024 show was one for the books, for reasons aplenty. The maison’s newly appointed creative director and multi-hyphenate Pharrell Williams opened his first show for the luxury brand at the men’s Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, in an open-air setting on Pont Neuf bridge, Paris.

Mirroring Williams’ keen eye for detail, the showcase saw the reimagining of the iconic Damier print (LV’s version of the checkerboard print) in a big way, while playful motifs and accessories—pear chains, gold top handle trunks, large duffels, embossed backpacks, round, camo square and beaded sunglasses, footwear with exaggerated prints—took center stage on the runway.

Deep diving into the unisex collection, Williams’ new designs were reflective of his undying love for archival pieces with a streak of modern tailoring and sporty elements. First introduced in 1889, Williams reimagined LV’s signature Damier print with pixelated renditions. The print manifested in various patterns, ranging from camouflage to taxicab yellow, adorning an array of pieces, including boots, bags, and beanies. Adding an extra touch of flair, the classic LV trunks were carried into the show on golf carts, seamlessly blending heritage with a bold and new aesthetic. Bags holding a really special place in the LV universe, the collection showcases numerous eye-catching iterations from trunks, toiletries, and speedys, artfully grouped together, resulting in a charming and alluring display.

Williams’ association with Hollywood and the global music industry goes a long way back, as was evidenced by the names on the guest list, and the music of course. A live orchestra led by the Virginia choir group ‘Voices of Fire’ set the tone for the evening, which ended on a rather electrifying note: Jay-Z performed with longtime friend Pharrell, showing his support for LV’s new hire. The front row saw star-studded guests to the likes of Rihanna, ASAP Rocky, Maluma, Kim Kardashian, and Beyoncé to Jay-Z, Lewis Hamilton, Zendaya, and Naomi Campbell (who btw looked smoldering in a custom monogrammed ensemble).

Overall, Williams’ debut at Louis Vuitton was a grand spectacle that breathed new life into the brand’s timeless legacy. With his creative vision, Williams juxtaposed the brand’s heritage appeal with contemporary style, bringing forth a show that will forever be remembered as a defining moment for both Pharrell Williams and Louis Vuitton.
