Three years ago, Jaquet Droz gave the Grande Seconde collection’s signature minimalist dial an audacious design twist with the new Skelet-One models. The movement was skeletonised, and the two distinctive off-centre sub-dials ( for seconds and minutes/hours respectively) were created from thin sapphire on which sat the gold indexes, hands and the rail-tracks. The dials appeared as if they are floating, and it allowed for the skeleton movement to be visible with maximum transparency without changing the basic design of the watch face.
The collection now gets three new colourful iterations, in green, sky blue and yellow. The colours make their appearances on the handmade straps, the hands, and each of the dial’s rail-track. The index and screws on the green and sky blue versions are made from 18K white gold, while the hours and minutes ring and the case are made from black ceramic.
The warm-toned yellow version comes in a plasma ceramic case and features red gold indexes and screws, with white gold hours and minutes ring. A harmonious chromatic contrast is provided by the metallic glow of the case, resulting from the transformation of colour at the molecular level during the manufacturing stage.
The hand-crafted, self-winding skeleton mechanical movement visible, both from the front and back, stands out for its black treatment and silicon balance spring. It has a power reserve of 68 hours. Limited to 28 pieces in each version.
