The year was 2019 when Swiss watch brand Zenith joined hands with Japanese manga and anime series Lupin The Third to produce a timepiece of excellent calibre. It was the first time a watch was created based on a depiction in a Japanese manga and anime series.
The story begins when Daisuke Jigen, the right-hand man and best friend of the lead character Lupin III is portrayed wearing a watch based on the El Primero A384 with a black, grey and gilt dial that had never existed before. Additionally, a similar white panda dial version of the watch is spotted in the final episode of the series. Based on these portrayals, Zenith produced the Chronomaster Revival Lupin The Third timepiece that year, inspired by the black, grey and gilt model. The following year, in 2020, another version in a white panda dial, similar to the depiction seen in the final episode of the manga series, was released.
For 2022, Zenith completes this series by unveiling a new edition, called the Chronomaster Revival Lupin The Third–Final Edition. This new timepiece features a split dial housing design cues from the earlier editions.
About the watch
The new Zenith Chronomaster Revival Lupin The Third–Final Edition comes in a 37mm barrel-shaped titanium case set with a combination of two dials featuring two distinct and asymmetrical halves. The split dial houses all the elements from both the Zenith chronographs. On one side sits the semi-glossy black dial with deep grey counters and golden applied markers and hands from the first edition. The other part of the dial is home to a creamy-white dial with contrasting black counters in a “panda” configuration with beige SuperLumiNova taken from the second edition.
With an expectation of customers forming extreme opinions on this edition, the Zenith Chronomaster Revival Lupin The Third–Final Edition is a work of art created by following a long and delicate process. It involved taking a blank dial, finishing it in a silvery-white colour on the right half, and milling the black chronograph counters. At the same time, the rest of the dial is protected with a layer of transparent and colourless lacquer. The exact process is used to paint the second half of the dial, while ensuring the other half is well protected lest colours blend into each other. This process is repeated when another layer of colours is added to the mix.
Within the Zenith Chronomaster Revival Final Edition is the El Primero 400 automatic movement that offers chronograph functions and clocks in a power reserve of 50 hours.
Price and Availability
Limited to just 250 pieces, the Zenith Chronomaster Revival Lupin The Third–Final Edition is priced at Rs 7.92 lakh (approximate). It comes in a titanium ladder bracelet originally designed by the famed Gay Frères company, lending the watch a distinctly retro touch.
