Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) was released in theatres in the year 1995 and has continued to dominate since. Directed by Aditya Chopra, the film re-defined romantic movies for Bollywood to the extent that renowned film critic Namrata Joshi even noted that “we can neatly divide them (Bollywood romances) into two eras— before DDLJ and after DDLJ“.

The film completes 25 years today. To mark #25YearsOfDDLJ, Twitter India has launched a dedicated emoji in celebration of this momentous day for fans of the movie. To take the celebration further, Yash Raj Films will also be hosting a DDLJ watch party on Twitter today. The film’s cast, including lead actors Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, have changed their Twitter names and display pictures to reflect their characters from the film.

But even after 25 years, we can guarantee that you did not know about these facts. Take a look.

The perfect title

A film’s title matters immensely and Aditya Chopra has actress Kirron Kher to thank for the name of his debut film, DDLJ. That’s right – the title for the film was suggested by Kher.

Farmer’s protest over iconic sequence shot in mustard fields

According to Indiatimes, the farmers of Haryana weren’t happy with the shooting of the song ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam’ which was shot amidst the blooming mustard films of Gurgaon. The farmers protested as their crops were severely damaged during the shooting but King Khan spoke to them in Haryanvi and all was settled.

Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna

One of DDLJ’s most popular tracks, ‘Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna’ was actually created for another film. Also, Chopra wasn’t exactly happy with Kajol’s green outfit in the song as traditionally, Punjabi brides are supposed to wear red or maroon. However, Malhotra persisted and the outfit was a huge hit.

Raj . . . naam toh suna hoga

Chopra dedicated SRK’s character’s name Raj to the legendary Raj Kapoor. His full name in the film is actually Rajnath which was inspired by Rishi Kapoor’s name in the 1973 mega-hit, Bobby.

Anupam Kher’s hilarious improv

Remember that scene where Kher is telling SRK about his forefathers and their failure in academics? Kher was actually using the real names of his uncles who weren’t so successful academically.
