Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 is a gripping tale set 35,000 feet above the ground. However, this isn’t your regular story about a plane mishap or about the survivors. The movie’s second trailer, which came out on Monday, reinstated that there’s more to the plot than what meets the eyes. 

The trailer of Runway 34 wowed people with its larger-than-life canvas and striking visuals. It also gave them a sneak peek into the face-off between the giants — Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn . Produced and directed by Ajay Devgn, Runway 34 releases on April 29th, 2022.

Here are the reasons why you should be excited to watch Runway 34:

A Stellar Cast

Ajay Devgn, who’s also directed the film, plays a pilot Vikrant Khanna, while Rakul Preet Singh plays his co-pilot. The film will also see Amitabh Bachchan playing an investigating officer who’s pledged to uncover the real intentions of pilot Khanna. The movie also stars Boman Irani, Adhira Dhar, and Aakanksha Singh.

Plot

Due to turbulence caused by bad weather, Vikrant pulls all stops to ensure a safe landing of the passenger plane he is piloting. He, however, looks like a man with secrets. He chooses Runway 34 for the landing, to the shock of people in the control room. Does the plane land or crash is yet to be seen, but his decision calls for an investigation. According to Vikram, during such testing times onboard, on one hand, a pilot becomes the only saviour for the passengers. But on the other hand, everything that happens on the plane also becomes his responsibility.

Inspired by true events

The film is inspired by the true story of the Jet Airways Doha-Kochi flight. The incident took place in 2015, when the flight had a narrow escape after facing difficulties to land at the airport due to bad weather and poor visibility. The pilots had to make a ‘blind’ landing on the runway without actually having to see it. This almost risked the lives of 150 people present onboard, and as a result, the captain was demoted to the rank of co-pilot.

Direction

Direction has always been Ajay Devgn’s first love as he developed an interest in camera and direction after watching his father Veeru Devgn, a popular action director in Hindi cinema. However, he started his journey with leading role in Phool Aur Kaante. Ajay Devgn believes whether it’s acting or direction, he is a “rule-breaker” as he believes it is good to strive for something new in his cinema. “I like to break the norms. Like even in my films, I am breaking some rules be it the storytelling or technology whether they work or not. It is good to try something new, and offer something different to people. I always do what I like, I don’t think which genre or space or trend it is,” Ajay Devgn told PTI in an interview.

One of the most interesting aspects of Runway 34 is the face-off between Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn, where the latter is put on trial.

Eid Release

The film is set to release on April 29th. Taking to social media, Salman Khan, who is known to release his films on Eid, wrote, “I don’t have any film ready toh maine apne bhai Ajay Devgn se request ki hai if he can come on Eid, Eidi dene ke liye. Chalo iss Eid hum sab celebrate karenge aur dekhenge Runway 34 [I couldn’t release any of my films on Eid this year, so I have requested my brother Ajay Devgn to come on Eid with the Eidi gift. We all will celebrate Eid and watch Runway 34].” To this Ajay Devgn said: “Bhai ki request, sar aankhon par. Runway 34 landing this Eid.”
