From Vikram Seth’s A Suitable Boy to Manu Joseph’s Serious Men to Daphne du Maurier’s gothic classic, Rebecca, 2020 is turning out to be the year of book-to-screen adaptations.

 

Netflix recently announced the Hindi trailer for its upcoming series A Suitable Boy. After being aired by the BBC in the UK and Ireland, the series is all set for its global release on Netflix on October 23, 2020 (excluding America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and China). The film stars Tanya Maniktala, Ishaan Khatter, and Tabu in the lead roles and is highly anticipated.

 

Based on the novel by Manu Joseph, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and directed by award-winning director, Sudhir Mishra, Serious Men released on Netflix on the 2nd of October to rave reviews for Siddiqui’s performance.

 

“This is my third project with Netflix and returning to the streaming service always feels like a homecoming. I am excited about this film as I waited almost 20 years to work with Sudhir Mishra. It’s a dream come true,” Siddiqui had said about the film, in a statement.

 

Adding to this year of book-to-screen adaptations, there’s Rebecca which is based on the 1938 gothic novel of the same name by Daphne Du Maurier. The film stars Lily James, Armie Hammer, Kristin Scott Thomas, Tom Goodman-Hill, Keeley Hawes, Sam Riley, and Ann Dowd. It is set to premiere on Netflix on 21 October 2020.

 

Besides that, we have The Queen’s Gambit based on Walter Tevis’ novel. The drama miniseries will star Anya Taylor-Joy as an orphan chess prodigy, Beth Harmon. It released on October 23 on Netflix.

Priyanka Chopra and Rajkummar Rao are set to come together for The White Tiger which is based on Aravind Adiga’s Man Booker Prize-winning debut novel of the same name.

 

 

The film directed by Ramin Bahrani and will have a global release on Netflix.
