Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi has been struggling to make it to the big screen for the longest time now. The film that was supposed to hit the theatres in early 2020, has been getting postponed due to different reasons every time. After waiting for the lockdown restrictions to ease down a little bit, the makers had finally decided to release the film in theatres on April 30, 2021, but with the rising Covid cases, there has been a change in plans once again. While the makers were gearing for the release of the film in April, the covid cases all around the country started to increase at a rapid rate. This made the government take strict actions, compelling Sooryavanshi’s director, Rohit Shetty, to take this difficult step and delay the release of the film once again.

Speculation about Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi being postponed had been making rounds for quite some time and finally, the makers of the film confirmed the news yesterday (April 5). In an official statement, the makers of Kumar’s film informed that Shetty is planning to shift the release date of the film, a decision that he took after seeing the rising Covid cases in India. Shetty also informed Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray about the same in a virtual meeting held on April 4, and was applauded by the CM for taking this step.

The statement read, “The Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray had a discussion with director Rohit Shetty yesterday. In the meeting, Uddhav Thackeray appreciated Rohit Shetty as he took the brave and difficult decision of postponing Sooryavanshi owing to the current Covid situation in the state.” The film was originally slated to release on March 24, 2020.

Apart from this, Akshay Kumar also headlined the news when he tweeted about being Covid positive. The actor was shooting for Ram Setu when he tested positive for the virus. The shoot for the film has come to a halt while Kumar has been shifted to a hospital for treatment. 45 other crew members on the sets of Kumar’s film have tested positive for coronavirus as well.
