Amber Heard Requests For A New Trial In Defamation Case

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard had the world glued to their screen throughout their much-talked-about defamation trial. Depp won the case, suing Heard for $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. The actor moved on from the horrific incident and was back to work, while Heard plotted her next move. She has moved the Fairfax court to reconsider the verdict against her or order a fresh trial.

Why is the Aquaman actress doing this? Well, her team of lawyers suggest that Depp’s team “proceeded solely on a defamation by implication theory, abandoning any claims that Ms Heard’s statements were actually false.” The actor had sued Heard for defaming him in a 2018 Washington Post article, where she called herself a survivor of domestic abuse.

The lawyers also claimed that the amount that Heard is liable to pay Depp is excessive. Depp’s legal team dismissed the appeal and the actor’s lawyer, Ben Chew, called the whole new drama “what we expected, just longer, no more substantive.” The new appeal comes a month after the final verdict in the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard case.

Interestingly, this is not the only legal trouble that is bothering Heard. She is being re-investigated in a case linked to her dogs, Pistol and Boo, in Australia. ET Online reported that Australian Department of Agriculture, Water, and the Environment is examining ‘allegations of perjury by Ms Heard during court proceedings for the 2015 illegal importation of (her) two dogs into Australia.’

Earlier, during a conversation with NBC News‘ Savannah Guthrie, Amber Heard had also admitted, “I love him (Johnny Depp). I loved him with all my heart. And I tried the best I could to make a deeply broken relationship work and I couldn’t.” She also said that she fears being sued by Johnny Depp again.
