National Award-winning film, Badhaai Ho‘s sequel was announced on social media yesterday by actor Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar.

The film is titled Badhaai Do and will begin shooting from January 2021. “Toh date pakki? Haath milao Bhumi Pednekar (sanitiser laga ke), 2021 ki shuruat badhaiyon ke sath. Badhaai Do,” wrote Rajkummar Rao on social media while Bhumi Pednekar decided to go with: “Aye Rajkummar Rao. Time to say Badhaai Do, milte hain set pe, January 2021. Bring it on.”

The sequel to Badhaai Ho will be directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni and will be produced by Junglee Pictures. The first installment of the popular feature film focused on the life of a middle-aged couple (Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta in splendid performances) and Gupta’s unexpected pregnancy. The film also featured Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra. Veteran actress Surekha Sikri played Gajraj Rao’s mother in the movie.

In Badhaai Do, Rajkummar Rao will play the role of a cop, while Bhumi Pednekar will be seen playing the role of a PT teacher, NDTV reports.

Badhaai Ho won two National Awards including the Best Popular Film Award Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Supporting Actress Award for Surkeha Sikri’s performance.

“I was not the first choice for Andhadhun, and neither for Badhaai Ho. Dream Girl as well. For Bala, yes, I maneuvered that project. There was a writer from Kolkata and he had this script about a bald guy and a dusky girl. I took the script to Dinesh Vijan and we developed the film. I was the one who coined the title Bala and I wrote the copy for the first teaser communication. But it’s not that I have a Midas touch and I am turning anything into gold. In fact, the scripts are gold. It’s all in the scripts and I am just choosing those projects. I always thought Dream Girl was very funny. I always wanted to do something slapstick. I wanted to increase my audience base. I have a loyal multiplex audience and it was time to go beyond that,” Khurrana had told MW during his cover interview last year.
