Behold, Amazon Prime Video Has Resorted To Self-Censoring

Amazon has decided to take matters in their own hands, and self-censor

Censorship has been a polarizing issue. And, the Indian masses are no stranger to it.

Although, streaming platforms have been a haven for adult content. It may not be the case anymore.  Amazon Prime has decided to take matters in their own hands.

Recently, this streaming platform was culpable for deleting sex scenes and muting explicit language.

As per Live Mint, the raunchy film based on the life of Silk Smitha, The Dirty Picture faced the axe. The 2-hours-24-minutes-long movie has been being cut short by 17 minutes on this streaming platform.

Hunterrr, a 2015 film starring Radhika Apte was also the victim of censorship. This film was nine minutes shorter on Amazon Prime Video compared to Netflix.

Amazon Prime Video has put their foot down when it comes to streaming films that have been denied a public release by the Censor Board of India. These movies include Unfreedom, Firaaq and Gandu. Although, Netflix has a different take on this issue compared to their rival. You can catch all the above-mentioned films as well as the uncensored version of The Dirty Picture and Hunterrr on their streaming platform.

This move by Amazon compels us to go back to the age-old debate about self-censorship. Especially since the online video space is shared by television giants like Eros and Viacom18 along with content producing sites Netflix and Amazon Prime.
