Ever since the second season of Bridgerton released on Netflix, Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathon Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) were the only names fan could talk about. And it looks like Lady Whitsledown isn’t very thrilled about it. She dropped a hint about Bridgerton Season 3 , revealing that the new season will focus on her and Colin Bridgerton’s story.
Lady Whistledown aka Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) is great friends with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), and season three of the Regency era romance will chronicle the blossoming love between the two. Sharing the update online, Lady Whistledown aka Coughlan wrote, “Like Lady Whistledown, I have been keeping a secret for quite some time and I can confirm to you all that season 3 is Colin and Penelope’s love story. I have kept that secret since two weeks into season 2. This is the first time I am saying it here.”
She further talked about the new season via Instagram Stories and said, “I’ve been keeping the season three secret for so long, I can’t believe it’s finally coming out in the world! Bridgerton fans, I hope we do you proud captaining this ship! We’re very nervous and excited, and can’t wait for you to see #Polin’s story.”
Well, this comes as a good news for fans. While it may have been difficult for them to Daphne Bridgerton’s (Phoebe Dynevor) love story with Simon (Rege-Page Jean) in season one, and then Anthony Bridgerton’s romance with Kate Sharma, the audience cannot wait to see Lady Whistledown being courted by a Bridgerton.
The two characters have been a key part of the story so far, so it was natural for the makers to not follow the alphabetical order of the Bridgerton siblings as in the books by Julia Quinn. After skipping Benedict, the story will focus on Colin as he has more of a story arc and screen time with his love interest, Penelope.
In Bridgerton Season 3, Chris Van Dusen will be stepping down as showrunner following season two. He will be replaced by Jess Brownell. “Bridgerton will always have a special place in my heart and I think I did what I set out to do. The fact that this show has become Netflix’s biggest English language speaking series ever is something I’m incredibly proud of, and something I’ll always be incredibly proud of. But at the end of the day, you know, it was time for me to move on, and hopefully create that magic again in the near future,” he told RadioTimes.
Another change that the audience will see in season three is in the role of Francesca Bridgerton. Ruby Sokes will be replaced by Hannah Dodd after Sokes landed the lead in Netflix’s Lockwood & Co. and had to say goodbye to the Bridgerton family.
