COVID-19: YRF Pledges Financial Support To Daily Wage Workers In Bollywood

At the time of publishing this article, the total number of novel coronavirus cases in the country jumped to 4,067 after nearly 700 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours. While 291 people have recovered, there have been 109 fatalities. With 690 cases, Maharashtra is the worst affected state with Tamil Nadu and Delhi following behind at 571 and 503 respectively.

 

Globally, the number of reported coronavirus cases have gone above 1.3 million and the death toll has risen to 70,000 according to data released by Johns Hopkins University. The US is the worst affected country with over 3 lakh cases, with Spain following behind with 1.31 lakh infections.

 

The disease has battered the economy with daily wage labourers being affected the worst.

 

Several film personalities and celebrities have pledged financial support to the PM Cares Fund and other organisations. According to Filmfare, Yash Raj Films is pledging its support in a bid to protect daily wage labourers working in the Hindi film industry. YRF wants to ensure that these workers who work in the setting department, carpenters, lighting, junior artists and spots have the basic means to sustain themselves.

 

The entertainment website further reports that the Yash Chopra Foundation will be crediting money directly into the bank accounts of the workers and that in phase 1 of the support, YRF will be paying out Rs. 1.5 crore to these workers and their families, according to an industry source.
