Back in May 2021, NBC had announced that it will not air the annual Golden Globe 2022 awards show. The decision was taken by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) after they received harsh criticism for its lack of diversity and allegations of corruption. This year, the award function was not at all glitzy, ensuing, with no stars walking the red carpet. However, the excitement to know who won what award was still intact.

The winners for Golden Globe 2022 were announced on its official Twitter handle. Kenneth Branagh won the best screenplay in motion picture Globe for his semi-biographical film Belfast. Jane Campion’s Western drama The Power of the Dog bagged the award for the best motion picture drama. The satirical black comedy Succession won the award for the best drama series.

 

Will Smith took away the trophy for best actor in a motion picture drama for his titular role in “King Richard”, the father and coach of tennis icons Venus and Serena Williams, while Nicole Kidman was adjudged the best actress in a motion picture – drama for playing the role of American comedy icon Lucille Ball in “Being the Ricardos”.

 

“The West Side Story”, Steven Spielberg’s feature-length adaptation of the 1957 stage musical of the same name, won the Golden Globe for best motion picture musical/ comedy. Rachel Zeigler and Ariana DeBose picked up trophies in the best performance by an actress in a motion picture – musical/ comedy and best performance by an actress in a supporting role in any motion picture category, respectively.
