Yesterday, the longest-running film in Hindi cinema, DDLJ turned 25 and it made us go through some #throwback videos of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol – particularly one that involves their kids, Aryan Khan and Nysa Devgn.

In the second season of Koffee With Karan which originally aired in 2007, Kajol was asked a question during the infamous rapid-fire round. Then the actress was sharing the couch with Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji.

Karan Johar asked Kajol: “10 years from now if Aryan Khan eloped with Nysa, you would…”

“I would say, Dilwale Dulhe Le Jayenge,” Kajol replied cheekily, making a reference to their iconic film together. Kajol turned towards him for a high-five but was met with a poker-face.

“Shah Rukh didn’t find that very clever,” Johar observed. “Mereko joke samajh nahi aaya (I did not get the joke). I’m too scared about if she gets related to me… (pretending to stutter) I can’t think!” Khan said and Kajol playfully swatted him.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) was released in theatres in the year 1995 and has continued to dominate since while also having given us one of the most iconic Bollywood jodis of all time. Directed by Aditya Chopra, the film re-defined romantic movies for Bollywood to the extent that renowned film critic Namrata Joshi even noted that “we can neatly divide them (Bollywood romances) into two eras— before DDLJ and after DDLJ“.

Of all the things that DDLJ has done for Hindi cinema, the greatest thing it gave us was, perhaps, the uber-successful jodi of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The two of them are India’s version of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the sense that, just like the West is obsessed with Jack and Rose, India will never get over Raj and Simran.

And that’s a fact.
