Directed by Oscar-nominated documentary producer Lydia Dean Pilcher, the film A Call to Spy about the unsung female heroes of WWII has an Indian connection. Actress Radhika Apte will be starring in the film about real-life American spy Virginia Hall as Noor Inayat Khan, a Muslim pacifist.

Written by and starring Sarah Megan Thomas, the film deals with the moment when British icon and alleged racist, Winston Churchill ordered a new spy agency called the Special Operations Executive which was set up to recruit and train female spies.

Actress Stana Katic stars alongside Thomas and Apte in the film where they attempt to foil the plans of the Nazi regime. Deadline reports that Stana Katic’s character as the “spy mistress” Vera Atkins was the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond franchise.

“These three women, driven by the stakes of humanity, had a choice to collaborate, do nothing, or resist. Their stories are more relevant today than ever. Happy to be working with IFC Films, a longtime champion of independent vision,” said Pilcher, according to Deadline.
