The filmmaker also revealed that Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani will also star veterans Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in key roles. The film will mark Jaya Bachchan’s return to movies after years, and also mark Singh and Bhatt’s second collaboration after Gully Boy. Written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan and Sumit Roy, the film will release in 2022.

Ranveer Singh introduced the families of Rocky and Rani on social media along with another short video. He wrote in the caption, “Meet The Parivaar. Honoured to share the screen with these legends of Hindi cinema- Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan & Shabana Azmi!”

The film will be Singh’s first collaboration with him at a directorial level. He has worked with Johar in Simmba, where the filmmaker played the role of a producer. He also had introduced Alia Bhatt into the industry with Student Of The Year.

A source close to the development had earlier told Bollywood Hungama, “The makers were on the lookout for a quirky yet relatable title and that’s when they zeroed in on Prem Kahani. The film is essentially a love story of two completely opposite characters, and the audience will get a glimpse of vintage Karan Johar, whose films at one point, were just meant to spread happiness, and take the audience in a fairy tale world.” The filmmaker has given Bollywood some of its biggest hits like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and My Name Is Khan.
