It’s almost been four years since Ranbir Kapoor’s fans got to see the star on the big screen. After Sanju, the actor did sign a couple of projects, but they got delayed for various reasons. But as they say, the wait is always worth it. RK is back with a film after so many years and it is none other than YRF’s Shamshera .

Shamshera has been on everyone’s radar for a while now but the team kept the details under wraps so far. While people had almost given any hope of seeing RK on the screen anytime soon, YRF made sure they take everyone by surprise. The makers have announced the release date of the film and it is sooner than you think.

With a monochrome teaser video, YRF announced that Shamshera will be arriving in theatres on July 22, 2022. Here is all we know about the film so far:

Ranbir Kapoor Plays A Dacoit

While Kapoor has essayed a range of roles, the audience will get to see him play a dacoit for the first time. YRF has promised that his look will be something new and different, something no one has ever seen Kapoor doing previously. We are pretty excited about this image makeover. He will reportedly play a double role; the eponymous father and son Balli in the film.

First Look Of The Film

The first look of the film was shared way back in May 2018. The 52-second teaser gave a glimpse of Kapoor’s look in the film. Swathed in dust and reinforced by an army of dacoits in the background, the protagonist’s first appearance was intense and intriguing.

It’s Sanjay Dutt vs Ranbir Kapoor

Sanjay Dutt plays his nemesis in the film, and his character is as outlandish as our protagonist’s. The two actors locking horns in their dreadful dacoit avatars will be an interesting watch. After Sanju, this is the first time that the two will be seen together

Leading Lady

Vaani Kapoor will also be joining this dynamic cast. According to the makers, Kapoor’s character acts as a spur to the plot’s progress. Her journey is interwoven with that of the protagonist’s. This is the first time the Kapoors will appear together in a film.

Plot

Shamshera is a period film set during the British Raj. The film will chronicle a tribe of dacoits and their fight for independence. “Azaadi tumhe koi deta nahi, azaadi jeeti jaati hai (Freedom is not handed to you, it has to be won),” says Kapoor in the date announcement teaser. “Karam se dacait, dharam se azaad (Dacoit by deed, free by faith),” he adds. The film will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Directed by Karan Malhotra, the YRF film also stars Ashutosh Rana, Ronit Roy and Saurabh Shukla.
