South Indian Actors Who Can Give Bollywood Stars Tough Competition

Thanks to OTTs and social media, South Indian actors and films have seen a sharp rise in popularity

The lines between Bollywood and the South film industry are blurring with every passing year. With Baahubali, Pushpa: The Rise, Valimai, and SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film RRR, Bollywood superstars are more than keen to venture into the world of brilliant filmmaking and larger-than-life storytelling. Also, OTTs have played a big catalyst in opening big doors to South films which were previously limited to lesser screens and scarce showtimes.

If Bollywood has gems like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Khans among others, South Indian cinema too has legends like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, Ajith, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Pawan Kalyan, Mammootty, and many more. Let’s take a look at some of the young and biggest South Indian actors:

Prabhas

Baahubali changed the game for Prabhas and there has been no looking back for the actor. Even though Saaho opened to a lukewarm response, he is all set to enthral the audiences with Adipurush which is touted to be one of the most expensive Indian movies ever made. He will also be seen in Radhe Shyam.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu

One of the biggest names in the Tamil and Telugu film industries – she became nationwide fame after playing an antagonist in The Family Man 2. As per reports, the actor is all set to make her big Hollywood debut with Philip Johns’ Arrangements Of Love.

Rashmika Mandanna

She needs no introduction, especially, after Pushpa: The Rise. She is all set to make her Bollywood debut with Mission Majnu opposite Siddharth Malhotra. She has also signed another film called Goodbye which stars Amitabh Bachchan.

Allu Arjun

‘Pushpa naam sun kar flower samjhe kya, flower nahi, fire hai main…’ Remember the dialogue? Allu Arjun is a big name down South but he amassed a big fan-following in Hindi-speaking regions with his recent outing Pushpa.

Ram Charan

Son of superstar Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan rose to fame with his role in SS Rajamouli’s Magadheera. The collaboration between the two didn’t stop there – they’ve worked together in RRR starring Jr NTR, Charan Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt playing pivotal roles.

Junior NTR

Tarak is fondly called Young Tiger of Tollywood or Jr NTR and is a big name in the Telugu cinema. He will be seen alongside Ram Charan in Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR in which he will be playing a 20th-century freedom fighter.

Rana Dagubatti

In 2011, the actor starred in Dum Maaro Dum opposite Bipasha Basu. Since then, Rana has starred in several Bollywood movies like Baby, The Ghazi Attack, Housefull 4, and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani among others. He became a household name with Baahubali in which he played the antagonist Bhallaladev.

Yash

Yash became a nationwide phenomenon and famous among his female fans post the release of his film KGF: Chapter 1. The Kannada hero managed to impress audiences and Bollywood alike. So much so that the second installment has Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon playing pivotal roles.

Vijay Deverkonda

The original angry lover boy, Vijay Deverkonda made waves with Arjun Reddy. The film was remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh with Shahid Kapoor playing the titular role. Karan Johar soon signed him to enthral the audience with his bilingual film Liger.

Dhanush

Dhanush became big when his song Why This Kolaveri Di dropped. The Tamil superstar soon crossed over to Bollywood and made his debut with Raanjhanaa opposite Sonam Kapoor. He was recently seen in Atrangi Re starring Sara Ali Khan.
