Steve Carell played one of the most iconic characters in the Dunder Mifflin family. So, it’s natural for us to assume that he might be knowing every single line or reference of his character Michael Scott. But, we’re wrong.

Recently, Carell joined his former co-star Rainn Wilson’s virtual sit-down series Soul Pancake to discuss various topics including, The Office and its growing popularity. When Wilson asked his former co-star in the video, “How has that been for you, this kind of strange The Office obsession renaissance going on?,” Carell admits, “I don’t know if you feel the same thing, but the people who watch the show definitely know the show better than we do.” He continues to explain, “Maybe we watched it once when we’d all get together and watch episodes. That was most of my watching of the show.” Later, he goes on to reveal that he doesn’t know all the details, admitting, “When people reference lines and bits… some of them don’t really ring a bell at all.”

Carell exited the show after the seventh season and made a reappearance in the show’s season finale. If we go to see, it’s been 10 years since his portrayal of Michael Scott, making sense that the actor doesn’t remember every single bit of it. Carell was even hesitant to return for the finale According to the creator, Greg Daniels, Carell was hesitant to return for the finale because he didn’t want it to become all about him. “Like he was like, ‘Everybody who put in these other two years, this is the end of the show. This is the end of all of their stories. I left, this isn’t all about me.” So, it’s safe to assume that the actor doesn’t remember the exact details of the script. But we’re pretty sure, Carell will never forget his iconic line “That’s what she said.”
