The day has arrived. After years of wait, the live-action TV adaption of The Last Of Us is finally here and it’s blowing everyone’s mind. Created by Craig Mazin, who also bought us HBO’s Chernobyl and the Hangover 3, the adaptation stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay in the lead. The first episode of the show is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.   

For those who are unfamiliar, the TV show is based on the 2013’s video game of the same name. The Last Of Us was developed by Naughty Dog and creator Neil Druckmann, who followed it up with a sequel in 2020. The Game Of The Year winner follows the journey of Joel and Ellie, who are traveling across America against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse.   

But, don’t mistake it for your average zombie shoot ‘em up. The heart of the video game lies in the connection Joel and Ellie form in a highly volatile world that intends to kill them. Think 2018’s God of War, but on high emotional steroids. And it looks like the show has resonated well with both the audience and critics alike. The HBO show currently has a 98 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with more than 80 reviews coming in. Similarly, its average audience score stands at 96 percent, an achievement in itself.   

Along with the two Game of Thrones alumni Pascal and Ramsey, the show also stars Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Woodard, Parks and Recreation’s Nick Offerman, Anna Torv, Merle Dandrige, Nico Parker, Gabriel Luna, Jeffrey Pierce, and Murray Bartlett. As announced earlier, Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who voiced Ellie and Joel in the games will also feature in undisclosed roles.
