The highly awaited trailer of Dharma Production ‘Dhadak’ featuring late Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khatter is finally here. And we have to admire that we’re impressed by the duo’s attempts at playing their roles and of course the chemistry.

But we have to say it out loud that overall, the movie doesn’t look out of the ordinary.

The Dharma movie is the Hindi remake of National Award–winning Marathi film Sairat. Two lovers from different backgrounds fall in love. They have to cross many hurdles within their families before finally they either get together or the both of them die. Typical Romeo-Juliet! We have seen this plot repeatedly in films like Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram Leela, Ishaqzaade and Qyamat Se Qyamat Tak.

No new story line, but being a Karan Johar movie, there of course will be some extravagance . For instance the holi scene in the trailer, where the actors are seen pouring colour on each other and still manage to look fabulous. Costumes are full of colour with a scenic view of the vibrant and rustic charm of Rajasthan. Ishaan looks rough yet charming and his acting seems natural. On the other hand, Janhvi is elegant and pretty, trying hard in the acting department but manages to pull it off at the end.

Furthermore, Dhadak’s trailer does look far less dramatic than Sairat’s. It was sweet and simple with no extra drama here and there, and over the top dialogues that the original movie comprised.

It’s worth mentioning that both the newbies have done a satisfactory job in getting the dialect right and delivering it with ease. We also get a glimpse of their dancing skills where the Hindi adaptation of the famous track ‘Zingaat’ is played in the trailer. But the Twitteratti doesn’t seem too happy about it.

Another major aspect that has not gone down well with Sairat fans is how the entire caste angle has been completely overlooked in the trailer. The entire premise of the Marathi film was to shatter caste barriers that put premature ends to so many budding romances in our society. But not mentioning anything about the same in the trailer doesn’t bode well for a production house that has already been under fire for favouritism and nepotism.
