As cinephiles, we can’t get over how great a movie The Shawshank Redemption was. Andy Dufresne’s character was so easy to love, and we too felt extremely thrilled when he finally broke free. We are expecting something similar with Lucknow Central, whose trailer launched today. 

Honestly, we didn’t think Farhan Akhtar could top his incredible performance in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and shoddy films like Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Wazir and Rock On 2 only strengthened our belief. But, the real Akhtar’s back, and how. Lucknow Central looks to be one hell of a ride, with a theme that we all love – jailbreak. 

Wanting to form a band, and not letting his small town upbringing come in the way of his dreams, Akhtar looks like any other average guy. But when he ends up in jail, he becomes a mastermind who forms a band to plot an escape. How does he do it? What challenges does he face? These are questions that will be answered only when the film releases. 

It will be Ranjit Tiwari’s debut as a director, and from the looks of it, he looks to be in here for a long innings. There are also wonderful actors like Ronit Roy and Deepak Dobriyal who always deliver impactful performances. 

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Nikkhil Advani (producer) revealed the unique nature of the film’s music. “Farhan and his jail mates don’t have musical instruments in the prison, which is why they use mouth and body percussions. Taufiq Qureshi and Omkar Sulankhe have created two songs, including this one with the same technique and no musical instruments, which have panned out really well,” he said. 

In India, probably the biggest jailbreak film was Kaalia. The tussle between Kaalia (Amitabh Bachchan) and Raghuveer Singh (Pran) was magnetic. We loved the song where a handicapped man happily sings words of wisdom, and proclaims that who can cage a bird, he’s got to fly one day.

The likes of Kaalia and Andy Dufresne make us feel so good, because we all love overcoming the worst of adversities. And such films allow us to feel what it is to overcome the worst situations.
