“The Makeup Museum is a critical institution for the cultural landscape in New York and globally because makeup has a 10,000-year-old history spanning from the ancient Egyptians with the kohl eyeliner that they used to the kabuki and geisha museum in Japan, all the way to drag makeup and the influence that it has today in popular culture,” says Doreen Bloch, the Executive Director of the Makeup Museum.

 

One doesn’t need a reason to visit New York City considering it is one of the most interesting cities in the world but here’s another reason – the Makeup Museum will open in the Meatpacking District on the 20th of May and will be a museum dedicated completely to the history of makeup and its contribution to society, along with all the products and the creators and artists that are associated with it.

 

“The 1950s is a perfect time period for the Makeup Museum to start within the debut exhibition because the 1950s is the birth of the modern cosmetics industry.”

 

 

The Oklahoman reports that brand sponsors will play a special role in the museum such as the collection of products belonging to Erno Laszlo which was used by the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Greta Garbo.

 

“We love looking back and being inspired by our rich heritage as we move forward. Erno Laszlo was founded by the world’s first skin doctor and we’re often associated with cultural icons like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, both of them his clients during the 1950s,” said Kristy Watson, chief marketing officer at Erno Laszlo to the news portal. “We are delighted to be partnering with the Makeup Museum to share our rich history with beauty enthusiasts from all over the world.”
