Martyr’s Day: These Mahatma Gandhi Words Are Exactly The Kind Of Motivation You Need On Monday

His values of ahimsa and truth, still holds true and Gandhigiri is a solution to a lot of problems.

Today is Martyr’s Day, a day used to mark the unfortunate death of Mahatma Gandhi by the hands of Nathuram Godse. We owe Gandhi a lot, which is why he’s the face of every currency that we have. His values of ahimsa and truth, still holds true and as we saw in Lage Raho Munnabhai, Gandhigiri is a solution to a lot of problems.

To remember him, we thought there was not better way than scour through his quotes to pick the best five.

1

Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny.

2

Service which is rendered without joy helps neither the man nor the served. But all other pleasures and possessions pale into nothingness before service which is rendered in a spirit of joy.

3

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always.

4

Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one’s weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.

5

It is unwise to be too sure of one’s own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.

6

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

7

It is easy enough to be friendly to one’s friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business.

8

It’s the action, not the fruit of the action, that’s important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there’ll be any fruit. But that doesn’t mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.
