Adam Gilchrist Quashes Reports Of Him Being Richer Than Sachin Tendulkar

Gilchrist wrote on Twitter that it’s not him but his namesake, who is the founder of Australia’s biggest fitness company F45.

Adam Gilchrist has come out of his shell to dismiss a factually incorrect report about his net worth, which has been doing rounds on Twitter. The CEOWORLD magazine published a report of the richest cricketers in the world, putting Adam Gilchrist, with a net worth of $380 million, at the top.

The netizens couldn’t stop wondering how the Australian wicket-keeper amassed his fortune, as earning that astronomical sum from cricket broadcasting and sponsorships alone is not possible. Moreover, he was placed ahead of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, which just didn’t feel right because of the latter’s all-encompassing stardom.

Gilchrist wrote on Twitter that it’s not him but his namesake, who is the founder of Australia’s biggest fitness company F45. The fitness empire mogul left the company last year.

“A case of mistaken identity here folks.Unless of course my namesake who founded F45 played cricket, in which case it’s completely accurate #doyourresearch #fakenews #yasafesachin,” Gilchrist wrote on Twitter.

Gilchrist, 51, is widely regarded as one of the greatest wicket-keepers of the game. He was a vital cog of the high-flying Australian team that won three consecutive World Cups in 1998, 2003, and 2007. In his playing days, he enjoyed a good rapport with Tendulkar.

Tendulkar once reminisced about his famous “desert storm” innings where India was chasing a revised target of 277 in 46 overs. Tendulkar slammed 143 off 131, but was a bit afraid in the beginning, as he was worrying about the imminent storm. The Indian batter said that since he was small in stature, he knew the wind will blow him away, and thus he thought of grabbing Gilchrist.

“It was a special one, a big one because it is something that happened to me for the first time on the cricket field. When I was batting there and suddenly I see this desert storm approaching us, it was like a Hollywood movie and the first thought that came to my mind was ‘Where is Gilchrist?’ Because I thought I would be blown away and I was all prepared to grab him,” Sachin Tendulkar joked.
