The grand IPL auction concluded a few days ago with plenty of exciting moments, and surprises too, as many talented players went unsold.

According to The Indian Express, the likes of Jason Roy, Aaron Finch, Alex Hales, Alex Carey, etc. didn’t get a single suitor at the auction in Chennai on Thursday, leaving many fans and experts scratching their heads with unanswered questions. England opening batsman Roy, who is widely considered as one of the most fearsome hitters of the cricket ball in the limited-overs formats, admitted being shocked to have not fetched a single bid from any of the 8 franchises.

Aaron Finch, Australia’s captain in the white-ball formats, played for Royal Challengers Bangalore last season but this time, there were no takers for him.

Here are some of the big names who surprisingly went unsold.

Aaron Finch

The Australian captain has been a part of many IPL teams over the years. Despite all of this he has not proved to be that good and struggles to find the permanent spot in any of the franchises. But he is a decent player who can open the innings well and take advantage of the powerplay. Openers have not been picked a lot this season and it is possible that teams might need them ahead in the tournament. So Finch can be a perfect choice.

Jason Roy

English hard hitter and opener Jason Roy was not picked in the auction this time. He was a part of the Delhi Daredevils last year. He has played some good knocks in the IPL, if he gets in form and produces the kind of innings he has produced before, he can be picked by teams later on.

Marnus Labuschagne

The Australian all-rounder is in wonderful form this season. He was the top scorer in the Border Gavaskar trophy and also did well in the ODIs of the same tour. Any team looking for a spinning all-rounder should have definitely gone for him. Nevertheless, there’s a high chance that he can be picked later in the auction.

Jason Behrendorff

The tall pacer was a part of Mumbai Indians two seasons back but has not been able to get his name big in the IPL. However, he’s getting better with his game with time. With bowlers being the winners in the auction, one would have expected him to get a bid, but it didn’t happen, unfortunately. However, bowlers might get injured in the long season, or for workload management, he can be in the reckoning.

The 2021 IPL auction started with a few maiden overs and slowly picked up the pace. A lot of uncapped players got chances and quite a few foreign players did not find buyers. All in all, it was a decent auction with most of the teams getting their desired players despite being of higher prices.
