MI vs KKR : Andre Russell And Shubman Gill Crush MI’s Hopes Of A Win

Andre Russell smashed 80 runs off 40 deliveries, making him the Man of the Match

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) broke three major losing streaks after winning their battle with the Mumbai Indians (MI). They broke a six-match losing streak in this year’s IPL, they broke an eight-match losing streak against MI and they also broke a four-match losing streak at the Eden Gardens.

Shubman Gill, Chris Lynn and Andre Russell were in complete beast-mode in their match against MI as they all amassed a behemoth score of 232 in 20 overs. Gill smashed 76 off 45, Lynn hit 54 off 29 and the Russell scored a whopping 80 off 40 deliveries.

Starting the match off was KKR, who decided to bat first. The explosive team of Lynn and Gill came down upon Eden gardens and lit up the whole stadium with their incredible performance. Lynn slammed eight fours and two sixes and brought up his half-century before Rahul Chahar put a stop to that by taking Lynn out eventually.

That’s when the big man Andre Russell came onto the pitch, giving a night the folks present at Eden gardens wouldn’t forget. Gill did his part and took it slow against dangerous bowlers like Malinga and Bumrah once Russell came on. He left the smashes for Russell, who provided just that.

Mumbai was left to chase a tough score of 233, the highest score anyone’s ever had to chase this season. MI got off to a bad start by losing Quinton de Kock (0), Rohit (12), Evin Lewis (15) and Suryakumar Yadav (26) within nine overs. Hardik Pandya eventually came out and it almost felt he just might turn this match around. But unfortunately, he didn’t get any support from his teammates and MI lost even though Pandya blasted six fours and nine sixes, collecting an unbelievable score of 91 off 34 balls.

With 10 points to their name, KKR have now climbed to the fifth spot, while Mumbai are still on No. 3 with 14 points.

As if winning at home wasn’t great, something even more special took place after the match ended. Shah Rukh Khan and Andre Russell put a smile on the face of a special fan who came out to watch his favourite team play on his birthday.
