5. Alain Prost

Cool, calculating, and consistently fast, Alain Prost has always been the one to watch. He held the record for most Grand Prix victories from 1987 until 2001. Teamed with McLaren, Ferrari, and Renault, he participated in 202 races in his career.

4. Jim Clark

In 1961, Jim Clark came out of one of F1’s horrific accidents alive, but the revered Scot would ultimately lose his life during a Formula 2 race in West Germany at the age of 32. Clark died a two-time champion, with a record-setting 25 wins and 33 poles.

3. Lewis Hamilton

While it may seem premature to call him one of the greatest of all time since he’s still winning races and breaking records, Hamilton’s record-setting wins pretty much put him at par with the greatest F1 drivers of all time. Hamilton currently has 87 victories and 151 podium finishes to his credit, and he is on the verge of breaking Michael Schumacher’s record of 91 GP wins.

2. Michael Schumacher

Michael may have over-stepped the mark multiple times, but one simply can’t deny the fact that he still remains an all-time great and not just because he won seven world championships, 91 races, and smashed every record there was to smash, but also because he’s a fascinating and complex character, more complex than you might think. He is the only driver in F1 history who finished in 1st position in 5 consecutive seasons from 2000 to 2004.

1. Ayrton Senna

There’s not much to say about the Brazilian superstar that hasn’t been said many times, other than to note that he was the driver who elevated the art of driving a Formula One car to a level that was almost spiritual. Overall in his career, he won a total of 41 Grand Prix and three world titles.
