Shikhar Dhawan Leads Animated Dressing Room Celebration After India Trounce West Indies

West Indies could only manage 137 while chasing 257 in 36 overs in Trinidad

A brilliant half-century from Shubman Gill, followed by a four-wicket haul from Yuzvendra Chahal helped India crush West Indies by 119 runs in a rain-curtailed clash in Trinidad. In the pursuit of 257 in 36 overs, the hosts could only manage 137, and ended up getting clean-swept in the three-match series.

Following the award ceremony, where Gill was adjudged as Player of the Series, the Indian team gathered in the dressing room for celebration. The head coach Rahul Dravid started the speech in his trademark style, applauding the young unit for stepping up to the occasion in the absence of some of the biggest stars.

Dravid also lauded Shikhar Dhawan for his astute captaincy, and asked him to address the team. Dhawan, who has scored two fifties in three outings, acknowledged the contribution of the support staff before calling his teammates, including Rohit Sharma, to form a huddle around him.

“First of all, as a team, we would like to thank the support staff and all of the members who have helped us, really appreciate your support. Well done boys, the batting unit as well as the bowling unit, you guys were amazing, whatever we discussed before this series, that we are a process-oriented team, and you guys have already started taking those steps. I’m sure you guys are going to go a long way.” said Dhawan.

Dhawan directed the players to shout “champion” every time he asked, “Who are we?” The video, posted by BCCI, has gone viral, generating over 7000 likes.

While Gill’s composed 98 stole the show, the bowlers too did a great job of restricting the hosts to just over 150. Mohammed Siraj ran through the top-order, prising out two wickets in the space of three balls, before Yuzvendra Chahal wrapped up the innings with three quick wickets.
