‘Fallout’ Series Set Photos Bring An Iconic In-Game Location To Life

The next big gaming adaptation is finally under production

In a first for the Amazon-produced video-game adaptation, new behind-the-scenes photos have revealed a closer look at the post-apocalyptic world of the Fallout franchise.

The photos themselves highlight an iconic in-game location referred to as the ‘Super-Duper Mart’ – a large abandoned supermarket that players can explore in 2008’s Fallout 3, and 2015’s Fallout 4, along with other less-important entries. The franchise, which was kicked off in 1997, explores a dark alternate-future scenario for humankind, where nuclear warfare in 2077 leaves much of the United States as an irradiated wasteland, complete with several factions struggling for control and survival.

While the architecture isn’t quite the same, the set shows off plenty of the decay and dilapidation associated with Fallout’s bleak art style, complete with rusted-out vehicles on the set’s parking lot.

The fictional mart’s first appearance in Fallout 3 takes place fairly early into the game’s progression, introduced menacingly with a bunch of hanging corpses, warning players of the ‘raiders’ – an in-game faction of bandits who kill and loot on sight.

Using stealth or firepower, players work to take over the mart, looting everything from bottles of vodka to a miniature nuclear warhead along the way. Fans, who immediately recognised the area, took to Twitter to discuss the upcoming show and the new set images:

While videogame fans tend to be overly critical, a few voices spoke up and defended the show – citing Amazon’s well-received work with shows such as The Boys:

Handling the adaptation as showrunners are Geneva Robertson-Dworet, a writer on 2018’s Tomb Raider and Captain Marvel, and Silicon Valley co-executive producer Graham Wagner. Westworld pilot director Johnathon Nolan will helm the Fallout pilot episode as well.

Amazon have also gone all out with Twin Peaks and Agents of Shield star Kyle MacLachlan, along with Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Aaron Moten.

Fallout is currently speculated to release sometime in 2023, with filming currently underway.
