Fossil hit all the right notes at CES 2022 with the Razer X Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch, a new limited-edition model made in partnership with Razer. This special edition – just 1,337 pieces worldwide – comes with a range of customisations. As you probably guessed, ‘1337’ is another way of writing ‘leet’ or ‘elite’ when referring to a gamer’s skill level. For Razer, this is a logical partnership given the brand’s recent campaigns to create awareness around wellness in Esports.
Cool Customisations
There are no Razer-style RGB lights but the ‘breathe-and-wave lighting patterns sort of compensate for this. This limited-edition smartwatch features a 1.28-inch AMOLED display with four unique Razer watch faces (Analog, Text and Chroma), as well as four customisable Razer Chroma RGB effects. The Chroma face allows you to customise the watch to match Razer’s other Chroma products. The 44mm watch with a stainless steel matte black frame also offers a choice of two custom-designed interchangeable straps, including a funky neon green. You can accessorise with other 22mm straps too.
It’s the same Fossil Gen 6 Smartwatch
Aside from these customisations, it’s the same Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch. The downside – it’s still waiting for a Google Wear OS 3.0 update. But the hardware is state of the art and the OS 3.0 update is likely to come in this year. It’s part of the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform that is 30 percent faster than its predecessor with faster app loading and lower power consumption. There’s 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. Restless gamers will also appreciate the fast charging – 0 to 80 percent in 30 minutes flat. The 1.28-inch AMOLED display (416 x 416 pixels / 326 PPI) is one of the most vibrant ones out there. The 3ATM water resistance ensures the watch is shower- and drizzle-proof but it’s not quite ready for the pool.
It’s not the first watch for gamers
The Garmin Instinct Esports edition that hit the scene in 2020 (Priced at $299 / INR 22,250) had some cool gamer-friendly features. The watch analyses gaming performance through a dedicated Esports activity profile. It also boasts a customised STR3AMUP feature that allows you to broadcast your stress level and heart rate to game streams.
The Razer X Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch will be available for $329 (INR 24,500) from Jan 10, 2022, on Fossil and Razer’s websites.
