There’s been a lot of gaming news coming our way this week. Sony just wrapped up its annual State of Play event yesterday, with a whole of announcements. With news like former PS exclusive titles coming on PC to new PSVR titles being announced, you all need to buckle up for this! In case you missed out on the info dropped at the event, here are the top 5 announcements.

5) Resident Evil 4 Remake

After getting a unanimously positive response on the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, and the success of Resident Evil: Village, Capcom has decided to greenlit a remake of Resident Evil 4. The company also confirmed that this won’t just be a frame-by-frame remake of the original, and will make some changes to the storyline without changing its “essence.” The game will be remastered on the RE engine, just like the new Resident Evil games and the Devil May Cry sequel. It’ll be available on both PlayStation VR 2 and PS5 starting from March 23 next year.

4) Horizon Call Of The Mountain

Along with showcasing the PlayStation VR 2 (yet again), Sony also announced an accompanying title with it. Customers of the virtual reality gear will have the chance to check out the limits of the new hardware with an exclusive Horizon game. Called ‘Horizon Call of the Mountain,’ the game will star Ryas, who’s described as a former Shadow Carja warrior on a mission to discover the truth behind an upcoming “grave danger.” 

And just like the other two Horizon games, players will be able to take down gigantic robots, traverse through a picturesque terrain and climb some really scary looking mountains. All of this with the added fun of virtual reality, of course. 

3) Spider-Man PC

“Look out! Here comes the Spider-Man.” It’s finally official, folks. The web-slinger, who was annoyingly available just on Play Station is now headed to PC. The Spider-Man Remastered will hit the PC market on August 12th and will also feature the ‘The City That Never Sleeps’ expansion pack. Additionally, Sony has confirmed that its standalone follow-up, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, will also receive the same treatment this autumn. On the other hand, we’re still praying for that Bloodborne PC port.

2) The Callisto Protocol

We’ve been waiting for a proper survival-horror game for a while now, and if the new teaser of The Callisto Protocol gives us any indication, the end is finally in sight. Co-created by Glen Schofield, who’s also worked on Dead Space, The Callisto Protocol takes us to a desolate, snowy planet filled with mutated creatures and other horrors. Instead of the hacking and slashing approach of modern AAA games, this survival-horror title demands slow movement, deliberate aiming and overall covertness from the player. The Callisto Protocol will be available on PS, Xbox and PC starting from December 2. 

1) Final Fantasy XVI

Saving the best for the last, we now officially have our first look at the new Final Fantasy game. Scheduled for a launch in the summer of 2023, FF XVI appears to be the culmination of all the previous titles leading up to an ‘Endgame-esque’ event in the land of Valisthea. From the trailer alone, the combat seems to be different from the older games, which is an interesting choice. Regardless though, the wait for next summer will now feel even longer and painful.
