Inside India’s First Apple Store In Mumbai

Located in Mumbai’s bustling Bandra Kurla Complex, the 20,000 sq. ft. store is one of the most energy-efficient Apple outlets in the world, with a dedicated solar array and zero reliance on fossil fuels for store operations

The wait is finally over. After teasing Indian consumers for a while, the first Apple Store in India is all set to open its doors at Jio Drive in Mumbai. We were among the first to get a sneak peek of Apple BKC, that will be ready to receive customers from Tuesday, April 18. The 20,000 sq. ft. store is one of Apple’s most sustainable yet, anywhere in the world.

Located in Mumbai’s bustling Bandra Kurla Complex financial, arts, and entertainment district, Apple BKC will serve as a dynamic space where customers can come together, explore Apple products and services, enjoy and learn how to get more out of their devices through free Today at Apple sessions.

Apple BKC will offer a special Today at Apple series, “Mumbai Rising,” running from Tuesday, April 18 through the summer. Bringing visitors, local artists, and creatives together, these free sessions featuring Apple products and services will offer hands-on activities that celebrate the local community and culture. Apple BKC features more than 100 team members who collectively speak over 20 languages.

Apple BKC is one of the most energy-efficient Apple Store locations in the world, with a dedicated solar array and zero reliance on fossil fuels for store operations. The store is operationally carbon neutral, running on 100 percent renewable energy. The India store sticks to it’s instantly recognisable global format with immersive experience zones for it’s entire product range.

Apple BKC features a triangular handcrafted timber ceiling that extends beyond the glass façade to the underside of the exterior canopy, reflecting the unique geometry of the store. Each tile is made from 408 pieces of timber, forming 31 modules per tile with a total of 1,000 tiles that make up the ceiling. There are over 450,000 individual timber elements, all of which were assembled in Delhi. One of the showstopper elements that caught our attention is a 14-meter-long stainless steel staircase connecting the ground level and the cantilevered mezzanine.

Apple will follow up the launch of the Mumbai store with a store in Delhi at Select City Walk Delhi. Apple Saket will debut on Thursday, April 20 as Apple gets set to expand its retail footprint in India.

Apple BKC in Mumbai opens for customers on Tuesday, April 18.
