After bringing back a bunch of old shows like Ramayana and Mahabharata, the national broadcaster Doordarshan has emerged as the most-watched channel in the country. While it is earning praise for re-telecasting the classic shows, many viewers have alleged that Doordarshan maybe deleting a few scenes from Ramayana.

Many Twitter users have been tagging Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar in tweets, asking him why the channel appears to be cutting scenes from what has emerged as the nation’s favourite show.

A Twitter user who goes by the name Swapnil Arora asked Shekhar why “important events” consisting of Ravan’s brother Aharivan was missing. To this, Shekhar sent out a tweet saying that there were no cuts and that these scenes were not part of the original production.

The beauty of our epics are the many stories, side-stories and interpretations. Not every nuance can possibly make it into a single television script but perhaps leaves the door open for future productions https://t.co/od8HaoBANs
